Treatments are performed after a complete evaluation to determine the cause of the issue presented by each patient. Occasionally a referral to a western medical practitioner will be necessary.
Acupuncture – Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Balance/Dr. Tan/Tung Style
Acupuncture incorporates the use of sterile, single use, needles which restore balance in your body. It is believed that your body’s energy, “qi” (chi) circulates through channels (meridians) which have branches connected to bodily organs and functions. Imbalance or an interruption of qi leads to pain and, or illness. Acupuncture carries a very low risk of adverse effects. It has been endorsed by the United States’ National Institutes of Health, the World Health Organization, and the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
A low frequency current is passed between pairs of acupuncture needles. It is often used to treat pain, and when used on the scalp, treats neurological disorders. It is very similar to TCM acupuncture in that the same body points are stimulated during treatment.
TCM/Western Herbal Formulas
Herbal treatment can contain a few or several herbs, usually in a formula. The herbs work synergistically to correct imbalances in the body and can enhance the positive effects of acupuncture treatment. We only use herbal formulas that have been manufactured under strict quality control, and are only available to licensed practitioners. We carry herbal formulas from the following companies: Blue Poppy, Kan Herb, and MediHerb.
Whole Food Supplements
Much of our food supply has been genetically modified (GMO), heavily processed and/or come from managed mega-farms with nutrient poor soil, and stripped of nutritional value. Unless home grown or organically purchased, the foods we eat are not providing our bodies with the nutrition needed to be healthy. Whole food supplements provide the building blocks of nutrients, co-factors and enzymes that allow for healing, and to maintain health and vitality. We are proud to be a preferred provider of Standard Process Whole Food Supplements, a Wisconsin company.
Cupping/Guasha and Tui Na Bodywork
Cupping and Guasha are ancient techniques used to treat areas of pain by removing blood stagnation considered pathogenic by TCM. These therapies bring the stagnation to the surface of the skin as a rash called “Sha” which is removed by the lymphatic system within 7 to 10 days. Cupping utilizes glass cups and guasha is performed with a smooth edged tool. Tui Na is an intense localized massage technique. Patients experience relief from pain and stiffness.
